DESCRIPTION:On 16th May 2022\, the Rwanda Journalists Association (ARJ) will organized a training session focused on the implementation of disability inclusion at the grassroots level and the crucial role of persons with disabilities in socio-economic development.\nThe training aimed to equip journalists with the necessary knowledge and skills to report on disability-related issues accurately and inclusively.\nA total of 20 journalists\, comprising 10 men and 10 women\, will participate in the training.\nThe training aimed to achieve several outcomes\, including:\n1. Increased Awareness: Journalists gained a deeper understanding of disability inclusion\, recognizing the importance of promoting the rights and participation of persons with disabilities in society.\n2. Enhanced Reporting Skills: Participants developed the skills to report on disability-related issues\, ensuring accurate and sensitive coverage while avoiding stereotypes and misconceptions.\n3. Increased Collaboration: The training encouraged networking and collaboration among journalists\, fostering a supportive environment for sharing experiences\, resources\, and best practices in disability reporting.\n4. Raised Public Awareness: By equipping journalists with the necessary tools\, the training aimed to improve public awareness and understanding of disability issues\, promoting empathy and inclusion within the broader community.

SUMMARY:Online Seminar on Ethical Journalism in the Digital Age
DESCRIPTION:The online seminar on Ethical Journalism in the Digital Age was organized by Rwanda Journalists Association (ARJ) supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)\, Rwanda Governance Board (RGB)\, and the School of Journalism at the University of Rwanda (UR). The training aimed to address the challenges and ethical conflicts faced by young journalists in the era of social media and new technologies. It provided journalists with valuable insights into the challenges and ethical conflicts faced by media practitioners in the era of social media and new technologies. The seminar also explored the role of journalism in minimizing harm in society\, even in an era where violence often dominates media content. \nTraining Goal: To examine the status of ethical communication and explore the pressures on ethical journalism due to social media and new technologies. \nIt highlighted three important ethical conflicts:\n– Preserving truth while gathering and sharing information in rapidly changing circumstances.\n– Maintaining and honoring news media fairness and justice principles when faced with social forces that challenge those principles.\n– Assessing whether an institution that benefits from violence can also contribute to minimizing harm in society.\nDates: 29th January 2021\nVenue: Zoom\nParticipants: A total of 25 journalists applied successfully will attend the training\, including 10 females and 15 males.\nPartners:\n– RGB\n– RMC\n– RURA\n– School of journalisms – UR.
